Our Parish came into being at the end of 1982. At the beginning we were without the present church but had a simple wooden building where Don Vincenzo, our Parish Priest since that time, celebrated Mass, and all other activities took place. Even after the church was built, we remained very much attached to that building and it is for that reason that our community very much wanted Nazareth House, a house of welcome which gives shelter to unmarried mothers in difficulty, to rise in the very place where we came into being as a parish and in that very place there is a Blessed Sacrament Chapel, which incorporates the original wooden building.
Don Vincenzo reminds us with such great passion and tenacity that the Eucharist and the Word of God are the foundations for a community which wishes to be a witness to God’s love.
And it is thanks to the goodwill of the laity that several different activities developed to express the compassion that seeks to help whoever is in greatest need, through the parish Caritas, Bethany House for those who have no roof over their heads and Nazareth House.
Particular attention was also paid to the teaching of children from the age of three, of adolescents and of adults, this consisting of weekly reading and reflection on the Bible, led by the laity.
With great longing, Don Vincenzo pursues ecumenism for the people, which results in our communities being twinned with three Anglican parishes: Saint Michael’s, Holy Trinity and All Saints.
The twinning was officially launched on 20th May 2001, during the celebration of the 11.00am Eucharist: this is the Sunday Mass in which the community is brought together. On that occasion the marriage of one of our young couples, Giancarlo and Lorena, was celebrated.
Dialogue with the sister Churches is very much on our hearts and we should like 2008 to mark a renewal of our contacts and of our ecumenical activities.
